No, because not everything does. That said, I'll append the word "yet".

What quality do you think is most important in a significant other?

For me, it's patience...because if Jonathan was not patient, I don't know how he'd live with me. Of course, sense of humour and intelligence are right up there for me too.

As per instructions on Satiate's LJ :)

You know how sometimes people on your friend's list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you *should* already know? It happens to all of us sometimes. Please copy mine below, erase my answers putting yours in their place then post it in your journal!

Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration! One word answers seldom help anyone out :)

1. First Name: Stacey. Sometimes called "Babe" (courtesy of Jonathan) or Spacey or Gerbil or "The Boss" or "Sweetpea" or "Stacey-kins" (thanks, dad... :/)

2. Age: 24, all year

3. Location: Currently London, Ontario. Hopefully Winnipeg or Brandon in the future.

4. Occupation: Full-time graduate student at UWO, doing my MLIS.

5. Partner: Jonathan, who I'll have been dating for a year as of July 13. We're not liking the separation from one another. We haven't seen each other in six weeks, and I finally get to see him tomorrow night...I can barely contain myself, I'm so excited :)

6. Kids: Nope, not yet. Although I now have a new little niece to spoil rotten: Mikaela Grace...I'm working on knitting her afghan right now.

7. Brothers/Sisters: I have one biological brother (the proud new daddy), Mike, and one foster sister, Lee-Anne. Then there's the siblings-in-law, Tylene and Roger.

8. Pets: In Brandon, I have two cats, Onyx and Bernie. In London, there's a skunk who lives in the backyard and I have all sorts of bugs in my apartment...mostly spiders.

9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:
A) Jonathan and I have our first anniversary coming up in a couple of weeks, although we have to celebrate early (tomorrow-July 2) because it's when I have time off from school.

B) As I said, my brother and his wife how have a little girl, Mikaela Grace. I totally called when she would be born...and even had a rationale for my guess! LOL

C) I'm in grad school for a year...well...10 more months now and then I hope I can reclaim my life from Academia.

D) I'm looking for a new apartment, since I've been having issues with the one I'm in...as well as the landlord refusing to deal with problems I'm having (like the bugs issue I indicated earlier)

E) I finally managed to get back into the 160s with regard to my weight...moving away from home causes weight gain, apparently.

10) University: I got my B.A. (Hons) from Brandon University, and now, as I said, I am in London doing my master of library and information science degree. It's going well enough and I think I'll likely be done by next May, if I manage to survive the course load.

11) Parents: Divorced, both currently single. I have pretty young parents (they're still in their 40s). Both are pretty excited to be grandparents :)

12) Close Friends: I have a few close friends all over the place, what with all of the moving I've done for school. I don't really get to see my close friends very often because geographically...well...we're not close. The person I talk to the most is Jonathan (probably 5 nights per week), followed by Harmonie, Jesse (not so much right now because his computer is broken)and Erin.

I had to sift through the 43 applications that we received for my job at the library tonight...if my eyes *could* cross, they would. We had so many applicants that were grossly overqualified for the position (an entry level Library Assistant Position), and it makes me wonder what the state of jobs in Canada really is (why are good jobs in one's field so hard to find...and get??)...one candidate even had an MLIS (which would have been fine, except he couldn't start soon enough)...which is what I'm *leaving* the position to pursue...and that wasn't the only candidate with a master's level of education...

I finally managed to get my "yes" pile down to 5 possibles of varying educational and professional backgrounds, which I'm going to take to my supervisor tomorrow and we're going to create the shortlist/interview list by comparing our "yes" piles and seeing how they compare/make our cases for the candidates we chose. I also formulated some interview questions that I think should be asked, in addition to the list with which I was supplied.

I'm really glad that I don't have to do this for my other job, which is a term research position...the only thing I have to worry about for that one is having enough work to do until the second week of April...which should be interesting, since my boss had to find me busy work today, since I ran out of other stuff to do. Wahoo data entry! Blech...

Birthday Entry: Will Be Updated Thru-out the Day

10:30 AM -
I woke up this morning and my mum had left me a card with $100 in it from her, my bro and his wife. My reaction: "I can pay my phone bill and one of my credit card billls! YAY!" lolol....

Then I got to work (dressed all schnazzy-like in my black pencil skirt, tights, red sweater and actual make-up...lolol) and on my desk were 2 balloons, a poster, a card, two double chocolate cookies and a diet pepsi. My reaction: "Free birthday cookies and diet pepsi taste better than regular cookies and diet pepsi!" haha

Remembered that I have to do my taxes today, and was initially crabby...but then I thought "Come on, big tax return!! WHOOT WHOOT!" I hope I get a big return...I have some bills that need paying!! lolz

Going to The Keg tonight for supper...and I'm going to order a lovely steak....mmmmm....steak...and my lovely mummy bought me angel food cake with whipped cream and strawberries, which is my absolute favourit-ist! Not even my rejection letter from UBC is dampening my birthday spirits! yay! (and no, I'm not drunk....hahaha)

Anywho....update to follow this afternoon!

EDIT!!!!!

10:30PM

Ok...I lied about this afternoon...mostly because I had to go shopping with my grandpa...and when someone's taking me jeans shopping, you know that's going to be my priority! lol...so yeah....new jeans, new shirt....

So...got the taxes done...feel a little cheated, since I don't get the education tax credits...but $630 isn't bad, I guess...it'll pay some bills.

I went to The Keg with my mum and grandpa this evening for supper and totally overdid it...to the tune of about 500 calories more than I was supposed to have....so I followed up supper with cake and a phone call from Crystal (which was really short because I was on my way out the door), and an intensive 1.5 hours in the gym....I was exercising like a mofo!...

So now I'm at the DU doing homework and sneaking a starburst or two,,,,the wonderful thing about birthdays during the week! lol...you always have homework to do after the celebrations....but really, my b-day celebration is on Saturday, so it's all good!

So yeah......my birth time has yet to pass, since I was born at 11:59 PM....but maybe I'll update at the exact time of my birth ;-D (which isn't creepy at all)....

Vagina Monologues Day 1

[info]info_girl
Ok...so day one of VM is now done! I have been told that it was really excellent, which makes myself and all of the other cast members extremely happy. We got a lot of laughs and we really enjoyed performing. Considering that we had no dress rehearsal, we (including the director and stage manager) were ecstatic that it all went over really well.

We think that the shows booked for tomorrow and Thursday will both sell out (Thursday is already sold out). We're very excited to make some money for the Women's Shelter and the Women's Resource Centre, because they're such good causes to give to.

So many people LOVED the chocolate vaginas on sticks....lolz....how many people get to say that they ate pussy on a stick??? lolz...those chocolates were custom, done by Kristi, a member of the Women's Collective, who designed the mould herself. Kudos to her for that!

I really enjoyed getting glammed up for this production and I really liked giving out program autographs afterwards....lolz....I R a celebrity....*har har* I've had requests for a rendition of My Angry Vagina for those who didn't get to see it...I'll have to see how that would go....I'm not sure about the procedure, or if I'd have to get permission or what.....but we'll see ;-D

Anywho....I have to do my essay that's already late....so hopefully I'll get that done as well, then all will be excellent.

The Saga Of Getting To Work
emo?
[info]info_girl
Ok...so, *usually* I work at 9 AM....pretty straight forward....but last night I slept in my own bed for the first time in a few days and I accidently set my alarm to radio instead of buzzer...anyone who knows me really well is now shaking their head, because nothing short of a bulldozer will wake me up...but more to the point of the story....I woke up at 10:45 and was like "shit!!!"...so then I ran around like a mofo trying to get ready for work.....then I looked outside.... two bloody feet of snow on my deck.... o0.... so then I had to clean off my car, which is easier said than done when all of my elderly neighbours are out supervising the snow plowing, commenting on who has the most snow in their driveway and pondering the mysteries of how evergreen trees keep a lot of snow from clogging *my* driveway. On top of this, of course, I still haven't changed my ripped windshield wipers....so my window doesn't clear well either...

Soooooooooooooooooo.....once I got in my car, I had to go ramming speed backwards to get over the wall of snow the plow left for me, all while trying not to hit the aforementioned elderly neighbours, who were then all supervising my driving and commenting on my backing-up skills...then, once I got to Middleton avenue, which hadn't yet been plowed, I joined a long line up of every kind of vehicle known to man (cars, trucks, vans, plows, tractors, uber amounts of semi trucks, moving vans, army vehicles....everything)...this long line up was brought into existence as they'd just re-opened the TransCan highway...so it took me about 45 minutes to get onto 18th street because all of the drivers were conveniently forgetting many of the rules of the road....like the fact that you are required to stop at a three way stop, that you cannot block an intersection (people who didn't want to wait any longer just lead into the intersection, thereby backing up traffic from all directions...brilliant), that you are not supposed to speed past an entire line-up of cars just because you're turning in a direction that noone else seems to be going (i.e. everyone is turning left, and you want to go right)...

Then....once I got into the lineup at the 18th and TransCan intersection, I had to stop on an incline that hadn't been plowed....wonderful, I tells ya...so I had to pop it down into first to get my little Chev Aveo to actually cross the intersection....I swear that I could smell burning rubber...and all the while, my damaged wipers are swishing back and forth, with huge tails of rubber whipping and squiggling all over the windshield....so that was fun....THEN....as I got farther, a semi truck turned in front of me and proceeded to drive on the shoulder of the road (I think he thought there was a lane under all that snow....but I hate to inform him...no...there's only two lane traffic on the North Hill...one in each direction....)...so I was trying to gesture wildly to this moron that he was going to go into the ditch...and he must have finally got the idea b/c he suddenly veered in front of me...I hate idiot drivers...

By this time, I'd been driving for about 50 minutes (compare to the 5 it would have taken me to get to the same point if there hadn't been a storm and major highway closures and re-openings)...from there, it was smooth sailing until I got to the uni (travel time=55 minutes)...and 20th street had not been plowed...so I had to fishtail all the way to the parking lot turn off....where a troupe of music students had blocked the entire entry lane...and thought it was funny that I wanted to get through....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....so then, I finally got a parking spot and got to work almost exactly 1 hour after I got into my car...so...here are my totals:

Hours late for work: 3
Hours took to GET to work: 1
Hours I intend to stay at work: 3 (will do extra hour tomorrow)
How long it's taken for my socks to dry out: 1 hour and counting
How long it's going to take me to figure out how to change my wiper blades....as long as it took me to get to work...lolz....or longer

And just think....they're calling for more snow tonight...

The moral of the story????? Yup, It's March all right.....

INSTANT HAPPINESS!!!!

Yay! I got the part that I auditioned for! I told her that I have classes on Wednesday evening, and she was open to me just performing on Thursday the 8th of March instead of both the 7th and the 8th. Plus it gives someone else a chance to perform b/c she said she had a list of ppl who she had told she didn't have a part for...so I'm glad that someone else will get a chance to tell the audience that their vagina is angry...LMAO....b/c that is the monologue that I'll be sharing with someone....mwahahaha

Anywho....I've got homework I *should* be doing....*shifty eyes*

V-Day Tuesday, January 16, 2007

Ok, so I auditioned for the Vagina Monologues last night, which was cool. The monolgue I read was "My Angry Vagina" and it was pretty damn funny...lolz...

In all seriousness, though, The Brandon University Women's Collective is putting on the production, and it looks like it's going to rock! The following is an article about V-day that I took from the www.busu.ca website:

The Vagina Monologues - About V-Day 2007 - 01/11/2007

The Brandon University Women's Collective is organizing a benefit production of The Vagina Monologues on March 7th and 8th at 7:30pm in the Evans Theatre on campus. Proceeds from the ticket sales and revenue raised will go the YWCA Westman Women's Shelter and the Women's Resource Centre.

The student production of the Vagina Monologues is the centrepiece of V-Day campaign activities organized by the Women's Collective and their partners at Brandon University. V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of playwright/founder Eve Ensler's award winning play The Vagina Monologues. In 2006, more than 2,700 V-Day events took place in the U.S. and around the world. To date, the V-Day movement has raised over $40 million and educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it; crafted international educational, media, and PSA campaigns; launched the Karama program in the Middle East; reopened shelters; and funded over 5,000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses in Kenya, South Dakota, Egypt, and Iraq. The V in V-Day stands for Victory, Valentine, and Vagina.

The spotlight of V-Day 2007 is Women in Conflict Zones. War exponentially increases the crimes of violence against women and girls. In equal measure the strength and resilience of women in rebuilding their communities and leading governments to peaceful solutions needs to be celebrated.

For women, not just during war but for decades to come, armed conflict means escalated military, sexual, and domestic violence, lack of security as a displaced person or refugee, and vulnerability to sex traffickers and coerced prostitution even by the peacekeepers themselves. Given the 21st century's escalating armed conflicts, impunity for wartime sexual violence cannot be tolerated. As patterns of wartime rape and sexual violence continue today in places such as Sudan, Congo, and Iraq, it is paramount to expose and condemn these crimes through international media coverage and public outcry and efforts in our communities themselves.

V-Day first took aim at wartime sexual violence with the 2002 Spotlight: Afghanistan Is Everywhere, followed by the 2005 Spotlight: Women of Iraq: Under Siege, and the 2006 Spotlight: The Global V-Day Campaign for Justice to Comfort Women. The 2007 spotlight will continue to ensure that wartime sexual violence remains in the media and public eye.

Help make V-Day a unified global effort; stand up for the cause and demonstrate our community's stance on violence against women through volunteering. Please contact the Brandon University Women's Collective for more information by calling 727-7317 or email BU_Womens_Collective@hotmail.com
